World of Anterra is still ahead of launch: Steam lists 2026, and pre-orders are open on the official site for Desktop & Console.

Release date and platforms

Quick answer

Steam lists World of Anterra for 2026 with no day or month, and the official site takes pre-orders for Desktop & Console. Windows is the only platform with a live store page today.

World of Anterra has a window, not a date. The Steam store page lists the release as 2026 with the game still marked as coming soon, and the official site sells pre-orders today under the line "Desktop & Console". Those two facts are the whole of the public release information, and they are enough to plan around if you read them precisely.

This page takes the release question apart: what the store page commits to, what the official site adds, which platforms have a store presence, how languages and editions sit around the launch, and how to be told the moment a day and month appear.

What the store page commits to

Steam's app data for World of Anterra returns release_date: 2026 with coming_soon: true. There is no month, no quarter and no pre-load date anywhere in the listing. The page also has no price: the app data carries no price block at all, which is normal for a game that has not opened for sale on Steam.

Two things follow. First, any page claiming a specific day is inventing it. Second, "2026" is a real commitment from the studio to Valve, not a placeholder field, so the reasonable reading is a launch inside the 2026 calendar year with the exact slot still unannounced.

Early Access, per the studio's own FAQ

The BackerKit FAQ that 81monkeys maintains for backers carries a line the Steam page does not: "World of Anterra is set to launch Early Access in 2026, and a backer demo will be available ahead of launch." That answer was last updated on 14 November 2025.

Read it next to the store page and you get the full picture. Steam shows a 2026 window and a coming-soon flag with no Early Access label yet; the studio's FAQ says the launch itself is an Early Access launch, with a backer demo first. The demo and Early Access guide covers both in detail.

What the official site adds

The official site is a pre-order storefront. It states "Desktop & Console" next to the game's name, invites you to "Pre-order the game", and notes that the Kickstarter ended on 23 September 2022 with over 300% funding. There is no date on the site either.

"Desktop & Console" is the studio's own phrasing, and it is the only console statement that exists. It confirms the project is built for consoles as well as desktop. It does not name a console, and it does not attach a date to any of them. If you see a page listing a PlayStation, Xbox or Nintendo date for this game, that page is ahead of the source.

The difference between "Windows PC" and "console" matters for how you buy. A Steam wishlist only notifies you about the Steam version. A pre-order on the official site is the studio's own channel, and it is the only way to put money down before launch.

Languages and voice

The Steam listing carries 16 languages, with asterisks marking full voice-over support for several of them. That is a heavy localisation load for a small studio, and it lines up with the game's stated ambition: a narrative RPG where dialogue is the main interface needs voice work in more than English to travel.

The practical upshot is that localisation is unlikely to be what slips; systems work is what moves dates.

How the announcement rhythm works

81monkeys runs a public cadence rather than a marketing calendar. Between January and August 2026 the studio posted twelve announcements: founder journals, gameplay feature posts on water, tools, explosions and palette swapping, trailer premieres, and Developer Fireside sessions that run on Discord and, since August, on YouTube.

The 9 August post for the 43rd Fireside is worth reading closely. It says the team understands that "gameplay footage, launch dates, and a demo are at the top of everyone's list", and then states plainly that those items were not on that session's agenda, which was about design pillars and the studio's in-house tools.

That is the honest version of the situation: the studio talks about how the game is built while the date stays open. The dev updates and wishlists guide keeps the full timeline with dates.

Where the backer demo fits

The March 2026 palette-swapping post says the main focus at that point was "finishing the features and content for our Kickstarter Backer Demo", with most of the team on bugs and the rest on polish. That is the clearest statement of where production stands, and it lines up with the FAQ's promise of a backer demo before launch.

What a 2026 window means for planning

It means you can plan the year, not the month: a wishlist now costs nothing and covers the announcement.

How to be told first

Three channels actually move: the Steam wishlist button, the newsletter on the official site, and the studio's Discord, where Fireside sessions and side recordings are posted. Steam sends a mail on release day to wishlisters, which makes it the lowest-effort option.

If you also want the console version, the official pre-order page is the one to watch, because the console side has no store listing to wishlist yet.

If you do one thing before a date appears, wishlist the Steam page and take the newsletter; between them they cover the PC and console halves.
